Understand mosquitoes to better eliminate them

To fight effectively against mosquitoes, you must first understand how they live, reproduce and find their prey.
HexaTrap brand traps were designed around a simple idea: intercept the mosquito at every key moment of its life cycle.
Each trap targets a specific mosquito behavior. Together, they act on its entire life cycle, allowing you to finally return to a normal life outdoors all year round.

The mosquito: an insect perfectly adapted to survive

Mosquitoes have existed for more than 100 million years. They are among the most resilient and widespread insects on Earth.
In Europe, the most common species are the tiger mosquito (Aedes) and the common mosquito (Culex). These species have perfectly adapted to urban life and now live very close to human dwellings.

The mosquito bites in order to reproduce

Contrary to popular belief, mosquitoes do not bite to feed. Only the female mosquito bites. She needs blood to obtain the proteins necessary for the maturation of her eggs.
Each bite is therefore part of a reproductive cycle. The mosquito goes through several stages of development:
  • Eggs: The female lays her eggs in stagnant water.
  • Larvae and pupae: The larvae develop in water for several days before becoming adult mosquitoes.
  • Adult mosquito: Once adult, the mosquito leaves the water. The female then mates, seeks blood and lays eggs again.
This cycle can repeat several times during a female's life.

Your home: its favorite living area

Most mosquitoes that bite you were born just a few meters from your house.
Around homes they find everything they need: stagnant water to lay eggs, vegetation to hide in, and humans or animals to feed on.
As long as their route is not interrupted, mosquitoes will come back to bite you, again and again.

Why classic solutions are not enough?

Most anti-mosquito solutions act at only one moment in the cycle and in a temporary way.
For example: skin repellents, candles or coils keep mosquitoes away but do not reduce their population; sprays and insecticides kill a few mosquitoes occasionally; electric zappers only eliminate mosquitoes that are present and about to bite you...
Repelling mosquitoes does not allow for a lasting reduction in their population.
Mosquitoes that bite today may have already laid several hundred eggs.
Eliminating a mosquito without preventing egg laying therefore treats the symptom, not the cause of the problem.

The HexaTrap mission:
break the mosquito life cycle in 3 steps

Intercepting the mosquito at each key behavior helps immediately reduce nuisance, prevent reproduction and thus gradually decrease their population.

Step 1
Prevent reproduction

The first action is to block mosquito egg laying. Females naturally seek stagnant water areas rich in organic matter to lay eggs. These environments are called larval breeding sites.

Our solution: the HexaCatch trap

It mimics the ideal conditions of a breeding site. The female enters the trap to lay eggs, then becomes trapped on an adhesive sheet and cannot exit. Mosquitoes that could be born in the trap are also blocked.
1 captured female = up to 1,000 fewer mosquitoes!

Step 2
Capture mosquitoes seeking to bite

After mating, the female mosquito goes in search of a blood meal. To find its prey, it uses a combination of biological signals:
  • Detection of CO₂ emitted by human breathing: this signal acts like a biological radar and indicates the presence of a warm-blooded animal.
  • Detection of dark, contrasting shapes: mosquito vision is limited and works only by contrast.
  • Confirmation of the prey's presence by its odor: at closer range, smell takes over. The mosquito detects lactic acid in sweat, certain molecules in breath and body heat.

Our solution: HexaTrap and HexaTrap CO₂ Capture traps

They reproduce these biological signals thanks to the attractant gel and CO₂ diffusion. They thus lure and capture females to protect you from their bites.

Step 3
Protect the inside of the home

Even with an outdoor strategy, some mosquitoes can enter the house. A final barrier then helps eliminate indoor nuisance.

Our solution: the HexaSafe trap

It reproduces the same biological signals as the HexaTrap trap but for indoors. It attracts mosquitoes thanks to a attractant gel that mimics human odor, then sucks them in as they approach. The trap thus captures females that entered the house before they bite you. It is also possible to activate a UV light, which attracts other flying pests such as gnats.

Combine multiple traps for lasting protection

Used together, HexaTrap brand traps act on the entire mosquito life cycle.
They help immediately reduce nuisance, slow reproduction and gradually decrease the mosquito population around the home.
Result: fewer mosquitoes now, far fewer mosquitoes in the weeks that follow, and a much more peaceful season so you can finally enjoy your garden or pool without getting bitten!
