HexaTrap CO₂ Capture
The standard Hexatrap uses an olfactory attractant gel to mimic human body odour. The Hexatrap CO₂ Capture also diffuses CO₂, which simulates human breathing and provides increased attraction over a larger area. The CO₂ Capture model is therefore designed for larger or more heavily infested outdoor areas.
Attracted by CO₂ and the scent lure, mosquitoes approach the trap and are sucked in by the silent fan. They are propelled into the capture net located in the lower tray. Trapped by the continuous airflow, they naturally die from dehydration within 24 hours.
The Hexatrap CO₂ acts very quickly to attract active mosquitoes, but the real decline in the local population takes 4 to 7 days. Do not rely solely on mosquitoes visible in the net (many disintegrate into dust). The only true indicator is fewer bites when you are on your terrace.
The Hexatrap CO₂ Capture covers an area from 50 to 500 m².
Please note: if your grounds are very large, have terraces or retaining walls, or are split in two by your house, the CO₂ cannot travel around walls. You will then need one device per “living area” for optimum coverage.
Absolutely. The Hexatrap CO₂ is designed for permanent outdoor exposure. Its housing is made from high-end ASA plastic. Unlike conventional plastics, ASA withstands the weather perfectly, does not yellow under UV light and does not deform in heat.
The trap is designed to be very economical, with a power rating of just 5 W. If it runs 24 hours a day, it consumes about 0.12 kWh per day, or less than one euro per month on your electricity bill.
This is the absolute key to success. A poorly positioned trap will not catch anything. Here is the golden rule:
- Distance: place it about 3 to 5 metres from your living area (terrace, dining table or pool). Never put it on the table, otherwise you will attract mosquitoes towards yourself.
- Strategic location: position the trap between where mosquitoes hide during the day (hedges, bushes, damp areas, ivy or garden sheds) and your terrace. The trap must intercept mosquitoes before they reach you.
- Environment: place it in the shade (mosquitoes dislike direct sunlight) and sheltered from strong winds that would disperse the CO₂ flow.
Your trap is equipped with a timer to optimise gas consumption according to your mosquito pressure:
- Economy option (6 h/day): ideal in normal conditions. Programme diffusion for activity peaks (for example, for tiger mosquitoes, from 7 am to 9 am and from 6 pm to 9 pm).
- Sustained pressure (12 h/day): if your area is heavily infested during the day.
- Maximum performance (24 h/day): use during the first days after installation to quickly “clear” a heavily infested area.
Check the net every 2 to 3 weeks during peak season. Tip: do not switch off the device just before opening the drawer, otherwise mosquitoes captured that day could fly away. Wait until morning, when overnight catches have dehydrated, or remove the net carefully.
- Check that the outdoor socket is powered and that the transformer is properly connected.
- Check the timer setting (if the timer is set to an “off” period, this is normal).
- Check that nothing is obstructing the fan blades (dead leaves or large insects). Always unplug the device before cleaning the fan with a dry brush.
There is no danger. Our HexaPure cylinders contain food-grade CO₂ from biomethanisation, produced in France. It is exactly the same gas used in sparkling water. It simply simulates breathing and is not toxic.
