Outdoor traps

Why set up a mosquito trap in the garden?

Most mosquitoes found around a house live and breed in the immediate vicinity of homes. The tiger mosquito, for example, has a limited flight range and generally stays within a radius of about 100 metres of where it was born.

In other words, the tiger mosquito that bites you was most likely laid in your immediate surroundings: garden, courtyard, hedges, flower pots or small pools of standing water.

Installing a mosquito trap in the garden therefore allows you to tackle the problem directly where the mosquitoes are present. By capturing the females before they breed, HexaTrap traps help to gradually reduce the mosquito population around the house and minimise the nuisance they cause.

How do HexaTrap outdoor mosquito traps work?

HexaTrap outdoor mosquito traps replicate certain signals associated with human presence in order to attract mosquitoes.

These signals mimic, in particular, human odour and breathing. Attracted by these biological signals, the mosquitoes approach the trap and are then captured by a suction system.

This mechanism mainly targets female mosquitoes seeking a blood meal, which are responsible for bites.

Reducing the mosquito population around the home

When a female mosquito bites, it is to lay its eggs. By capturing these females before they reproduce, outdoor mosquito traps play a direct role in limiting mosquito reproduction in your environment.

Fewer females capable of laying eggs means fewer new mosquitoes in the weeks that follow.

Used throughout the mosquito season, HexaTrap outdoor traps thus help to sustainably reduce the population of tiger mosquitoes and common mosquitoes around your home.

Where should you set up an outdoor mosquito trap?

To achieve the best results, the positioning of the trap is essential.

It is generally recommended that you:

• set up the trap away from the area you wish to protect
• choose shaded, leafy areas
• avoid direct exposure to sunlight
• protect the trap from wind and heavy rain.

A well-positioned trap helps to attract mosquitoes before they get near people.
